Exploration

At BIOS we believe that exploration is at the heart of success, without the ability to explore there are no accidents and therefore no discoveries. We want to provide that ability to explore to everyone regardless of social, economic, or academic standing.

Education

Education is paramount to us at BIOS. Education and access to information is an inherent factor in the vertical mobility mobility and economic stability of a society. We put this into practice, providing an up-to-date structured resource for a relatively complete reference knowledge-base anyone
will be able to have access to and navigate — with the help of internet constellations.

Transparency

Being open about our sources and ownership and rights of research is integral to the process of creating this knowledgebase and was part of the inspiration behind BIOS. We believe that if we make this information accessible, we should ensure credit and responsibility is given to those who did the work and published the discoveries, therefore this acknowledgement system is built directly into our app with the use of OrciDs.

Accuracy

Accuracy of information is critical to us at BIOS as without it we would have no purpose. All scientific data relies on how accurate a theory is… or isn’t. Our goal is to provide all of our users, no matter the experience level or use case, with the most accurate information availble pertaining to their requests. We want our users to also be able to see the edge of their subfield or find the edge quickly. People deserve a resource that emphasizes accuracy & reliablity without fail — BIOS seeks to be this resource.

Accessibility

Accessability is a founding philosophy of BIOS. Based on the accute realization that we learn the same information to become educated & skilled enough to participate, explore and gain experienced in a field; it becomes apparent that accessability to information for all levels is key to advancement. We strive to be a single access point & reference resource for students, the public, and scientists.

Goal

Our goal at BIOS is to provide access to information, we do not believe, as scientists & educators, we should take the role of dictating this information — instead we seek to be a platform for the information itself. We not only will provide conflicting theories where publications dispute claims and theories, but will also provide the ability for users to discuss current canon with new theories.

Who We Are

At BIOS, our mission is to bring biology into the digital age & create a world where everyone has the same reference for known information in a field—Biology. It is an ambitious plan with the goal to create a user friendly intuitive knowledgebase that enables anyone, eventually anywhere, to access and interact with any type of biological data or information on our platform. The BIOS team, though small has expertise in big data, several fields of biology, and software development. The BIOS team understands the current problems the field has and is actively working to develop solutions.

BIOS strives to set a new standard not only for the field of biology and life science education, but for information access to broader society.

Adan Jackson

Founder & CEO

BIO

Adan Jackson founded BIOS In November of 2020 during his last year of study at the University of South Florida. There he studied microbiology with a concentration in bacteriology and Political Science as well. He interned at OSCOR Inc. in the summer of 2019, a medical device and OEM manufacturing company where he was responsible for environmental monitoring & bioburden testing for all regional manufacturing facilities & products. There he also planned for the departments shift towards continuous environmental monitoring via IOT to increase employee efficiency, ensure greater accuracy and volume of data per day, automating the full EM process from test samples to data review and FDA audits. His interests have always included consuming anything STEM, finance, political theory, history, geopolitical strategies, and a healthy serving of the arts. And spends his time not reading, watching, or participating in related conversations; traveling to some of his favorite places & finding new ones, going to the theater (albeit mostly musicals), and attending or throwing a good party/gathering.

Farhaan Patel

Farhaan has worked for various startups to multi-billion-dollar companies and has a complete understanding of how a system works end to end. He has worked on developing MVP's, chaos engineering platform, Kubernetes, deploying and scaling applications and data pipelines, and automation of cloud deployment provisioning. Apart from this, he has also served various positions, some of which includes a Full-stack, DevSecOps and a Database Engineer, Lead Product Developer and Chief Technology Officer of 2 startup's.

David Devore

VP of Strategy, Finance, & Operations

David De Vore joined BIOS in 2021 as a Strategic and Operations Advisor. Graduating from the University of South Florida with concurrent degrees in molecular biology and quantitative economics, David is able to understand the business and scientific challenges faced in academic and industry environments - as well as can directly attest to the struggle that STEM students face in learning new material. In academia, he worked on several projects spanning multiple fields including structural biology, oncology, molecular medicine, and synthetic chemistry. David worked with GPCRs to identify potential new therapeutic targets based on dynamic structures, developed CBD & THC analogs to potentially treat primary amebic meningoencephalitis, and investigated novel cancer treatments. In 2020, he began working as a Biotechnology Consultant combining his love for science with his economic acumen. As a consultant, David worked with 100s of life science and medical companies to increase cash flow through research and development efforts. Seeking to again expand his knowledge of the sciences, David is currently pursing his Ph.D. in Pharmacology with advanced training in medical science at the Univeristy of Pennsylvania.

When he is not working or studying, David enjoys exercising, staying up-to-date on current events, and playing with his dog, Charlie.

Alejandro Gonzalez

Alejandro received his B. S in Chemistry and M.S in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology from the University of South Florida. His undergraduate research consisted of metal organic frameworks (MOFS) involving complex organic and inorganic chemistry. After three years he became fascinated by nano-scale manipulation of matter inspiring to pursue innovative research in pharmaceutical nanotechnology contributing in the development of novel drug delivery vehicles such as liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, and dendrimers. His work involved targeting lung cancer and SARS-COV2 where he provided computational, synthetic, and analytical chemistry expertise. Throughout his academic research he taught students, supported professors and post docs in their research & development. Shortly after, he went into industry as formulation scientist transitioning to clinical trial management. With over 6 years academic research and 4 years of industry experience he noticed inefficiencies and discontinuities between academia and industry inspiring him to join BIOS mission to improve educational delivery with the initiative to bridge the gap.
